This 1940s Greenwich home on a site with mature plantings, was remodeled in phases; allowing the family to stay living there while the work was completed.
The goal for the project was to remove unattractive areas that had been added over the years; to refurbish the glamour of the original structure and to extend that glamour into the new spaces.
The kitchen and family room were demolished to make way for a new addition over a full basement. This included a new kitchen, family room, and mud room on the first floor, with three bedrooms and bathrooms, and a laundry room above. A playroom and exercise room were provided in the new basement. The existing second floor was reconfigured for the master and guest suites. The house was entirely renovated and a room adjacent to the living room was remodeled as a cherry library. Chimneys were added to the existing house for fireplaces in the library and master bedroom, with an outdoor fireplace for the patio. Where the new addition meets the existing is seamless.
Siting of the addition was carefully considered so that the site could be developed to include new patios and a pool.
